Strange New Lands

This is a strange new land indeed!  From studying in the beautiful and rural country side of Derbyshire, where sheep rule and reign, to the hard streets of Birmingham where thick and heavy fumes scratch and claw the back of your throat.  I certainly didn’t expect to be here three months ago!

I am now two and a half weeks into my internship with The Lighthouse Group (TLG).  Born through youth work, TLG seeks to educate young people who have been excluded from mainstream education.   It is consistently my prayer to see the best in people, to open people’s eyes to their God given potential to ‘be’ and ‘do’ far more than they had ever imagined.  To watch as new passions, hopes and dreams are stirred from the depths of the heart.  That’s my desire.  In this strange new land, I want this vision to become a tangible reality.  Okay, easier said than done! So let’s get away from the airy fairy-ness and think about what this means practically; Teenagers get off your backsides and do something! And no, that ‘something’, does not include getting drunk, giving someone a black eye, smoking 'interesting' substances, or even stealing a car.   So part of my job is to number one: engage – what is it that makes them tick? And number two: motivate - to help empower and enable them to desire and achieve ‘something’ better for themselves. God (literally) help me!
